CHELENE 400 P/451 XP

The products are proprietary blends culminating into dry powder products used as a chelating agent. There are several very useful applications for Chelene 400 P and 451 PX, including, but not limited to, as an agent for surface treatment of metals in formulations; as a corrosion inhibitor; rust removal; reduction of scale from ferrous metals, copper and any surface where multivalent ions have caused scale or discoloration. We have focused particularly on mitigating and eradicating discoloration issues of the plasters in the pool environment.

It is an extremely strong, versatile chelant for controlling metal ions over a broad pH range in aqueous systems. It will chelate most multivalent metal ions, though it will not chelate monovalent ions such as sodium or potassium. Multivalent metal ions tend to be the most problematic, especially in cementitious applications and applications where there are issues such as scaling. Chelene 400 P and 451 PX are designed specifically with this in mind and are particularly efficient at reducing the effects of these multivalent ions that cause discoloration and chemical stresses in cementitious applications especially in pool and other under water environments.

Chelene comprises various elements that help to chelate detrimental ions found in many products across several industries. One such element is an enhanced powdered tetrasodium EDTA used as a chelating agent, preservative, and sequestering agent in many foods and beverages, cementitious applications. Its chelating and sequestering abilities render it well suited for applications, particularly within that same neutral pH to acidic conditions, but still applicable to higher alkaline pH conditions. Chelene serves as a chelating and sequestering agent by forming extremely stable complexes with free metal ions across over wide pH range. Best results are however achieved if the pH of the pool environment is acidic to neutral.

Many raw materials, especially cement, naturally contain trace amounts of heavy (multivalent) metals and other elements. These types of metals can also be found in processing water for food applications. Even though these ions may be existent in very low concentrations, they are capable, and prone to, catalyze reactions that can cause products like food products or vitamins to spoil, go rancid, get discolored, degrade and lose the functionality of their active ingredients. Furthermore, the metal ions can cause scaling and undesirable spots, especially in applications such decorative cementitious applications or in applications where there is extensive use of processing equipment.

More specifically, the Chelene complex reacts and binds with free trace metal ions, such as copper and iron, that tend to be prevalent in cementitious applications, to form stable complexes that not only stabilize, but and inhibit undesirable reactions that lead to discoloration and strength compromise of the matrix. This leads to less blotchiness and discoloration of the cement. In food applications, the process is the same, except that the stable complexes formed from chelation prevent or limit the reaction with fats, oils, microorganisms, and other active ingredients, that in turn lead oxidation, microbial spoilage, reduction of shelf life etc. The over-arching fact is that limiting free metal ions in formulations helps improve the appearance, shelf life, efficacy, effectiveness and functionality. The chelating power of the Chelene is particularly more effective at acidic pH levels, whether it is a food application or a cementitious one.
