CHOMATE

This is a proprietary blend specifically designed for cement mixes, and in particular pool plasters. It utilize the properties of specifically modified and engineered tetrasodium EDTA coupled with pozzolonic capabilities that allow for internal protection of the cement matrix through chelation of its intrinsic multivalent ions (such as iron and copper etc), plus it reduces efflorescence which also reduces the scaled look and shrinkage of the finished product. Furthermore, it provides added protection from external interference by making the matrix more impermeable through pozzolonic activity, which also improves the strength and cementitious activity of the matrix.

Chomate provides a chelating agent capable of binding to metal ions (eg Sodium, calcium, magnesium, iron, copper, zinc, amongst others) and rendering them inactive and unable to partake in the process of oxidation which in turn prevents them from discoloring and weakening the plasters or decorative finishes. It has four carboxylic groups and two nitrogen atoms that are capable of donating electrons which can then bind to positive multivalent ions, creating a stable complex. Essentially, in this complex, the EDTA engulfs the metal ions and prevents them from reacting with other available molecules which can lead to undesirable reactions. This effectively improves the stability of the plasters. It also extends the longevity of the plasters.

Furthermore, Chomate is designed to incorporate highly pozzolonic characteristics which improves the impermeability of the plasters by utilizes unreacted cement over time, allowing the matrix to be stronger, more durable, more resistant to weathering and attack by problematic outside agents. This helps to improve the resistance of the plaster from constant subjection to harsh chemically aggressive conditions associated with pool environments. On the physical side, Chomate also increases late compressive strengths, i.e. assuming an adequate amount of time and conditions for curing are facilitated. It can also help to inhibit the alkali-silica reaction, which can cause serious damage to concrete structures. Additionally, it also helps to mitigate efflorescence which also serves as a notable form of undesirable discoloration in the pool plasters.
